What is Taekwon-do? tkd_korean

Taekwon-do
is a Korean martial-art founded by General Choi Hong Hi 9th Dan. It was given the name Taekwon-do by General Choi and agreed by leading officials in Korea on 11th April 1955. Taekwon-do can be translated literally as 'the art of kicking and punching':
  tae Tae represents the foot used for kicking, smashing and jumping
  kwon Kwon represents the hand used for punching, striking, thrusting and blocking
  do Do represents the art, way or method.
Taekwon-do was introduced into the UK by Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha 9th Dan in September 1967.
Typical lesson

A typical lesson will consist of the following:

  • line up and bow to the instructor
  • recite the Taekwon-do tenets and oath
  • warm-up and stretch
  • combination of fundamental excercises, patterns, sparring, self-defence, and destruction
  • warm-down
  • line up and bow to the instructor and then the senior student
  • class dismissed by the instructor
